Pacific Coast Air Museum

Website Redesign & Content Revamp
Client: Pacific Coast Air Museum, Santa Rosa, CA
As Lead Strategist and Developer, I spearheaded the digital overhaul of the Pacific Coast Air Museum’s aging website — a volunteer-driven nonprofit preserving aviation history through static and flyable aircraft exhibits, educational programming, and community events.
Strategy & Approach:
The project kicked off with a comprehensive content audit. Decades of legacy pages, fragmented navigation, and outdated information created friction for both casual visitors and loyal patrons. Our goal: modernize the site’s architecture, rewrite and refine all copy, and elevate key visitor pathways — all while honoring the museum’s grassroots, educational mission.
Design Direction:
We grounded the visual refresh in a clean, modular layout that evokes the museum’s dual identity: a reverent steward of historical aircraft and a vibrant, community-facing organization.
- Streamlined page hierarchy to improve usability and highlight high-impact content.
- Crafted clear, welcoming copy to better serve families, aviation enthusiasts, and school groups.
- Prioritized evergreen needs — such as hours, admission, directions, and safety — alongside dynamic programming and upcoming events.
Technology Implementation:
- Rebuilt the navigation and site structure for intuitive user journeys across devices.
- Integrated an events plugin to support real-time calendar updates and boost visibility for air shows, fly-ins, and fundraisers.
- Optimized page load times and SEO metadata to improve discoverability and engagement.
Impact:
The redesigned site now offers a user-friendly, mission-forward experience that better serves the museum’s core audiences and operational goals — increasing attendance, simplifying event promotion, and amplifying support for ongoing restoration and education initiatives.
